Clinical Overview

Dycal® is a rigid, self‑setting calcium hydroxide cavity liner in the Dentin shade, designed for direct and indirect pulp capping and as a protective base under restorative materials. Its radiopaque formulation stimulates secondary dentin formation and provides a durable, acid-resistant barrier beneath adhesive, amalgam, or composite restorations.

Working & Setting Times

• Mix time: Approximately 10 seconds for homogeneous, streak‑free blend
• Working time: Around 2 min 20 sec before initial set
• Set time: Approximately 2½–3½ minutes, faster in moist intraoral environment

Indications

• Direct pulp capping over exposed vital pulpal tissue
• Indirect pulp capping as protective barrier beneath deep dentin or restorations
• As a base liner under adhesives, fillings, and permanent restorations
• Applications where pulp protection and long-term sealing are prioritized

Instructions for Use

1. Isolate the preparation (e.g. rubber dam), control bleeding, and rinse cavity thoroughly.
2. Place equal volumes of base and catalyst pastes onto the mixing pad; mix swiftly (~10 sec) until uniform.
3. Using a Dycal applicator or ball‑tipped instrument, apply a thin layer (~0.8–1.0 mm) over exposed pulp or deep dentin. Avoid enamel and margins.
4. Allow to set fully (approx. 2–3 min in mouth); remove any peripheral excess with excavator or bur.
5. Proceed promptly with adhesive, liner varnish, glass ionomer, or final restorative placement as appropriate.
