Ultrapak E, Knitted Retraction Cord (with Epinephrine) Size #1

Clinical Overview
Ultrapak™ E is a knitted 100 % cotton retraction cord impregnated with racemic epinephrine hydrochloride. Its knitted‑loop structure compresses on insertion and then expands to exert continuous outward pressure, achieving effective soft‑tissue retraction. Size #1 (≈ 0.76 mm diameter) offers reliable gingival displacement for a wide range of restorative procedures. Optimal tissue displacement typically occurs within 3–8 minutes.
Key Benefits
- Knitted-loop design: Compresses during packing and expands to maintain consistent retraction force.
- Epinephrine-impregnated: Promotes localized hemostasis and sulcular drying for precise margins.
- Size #1 versatility: Suitable for both anterior and posterior subgingival preparations, and as a pre‑preparation cord.
- CleanCut dispensing cap: High‑carbon steel blade and printed ruler allow accurate cutting and measurement.
- Non-entangling in rotary use: Flexible knitted structure resists snagging in burrs, easing clinical workflow.
- Compatible with bonding protocols: Safe use with chlorhexidine and aluminum chloride hemostatics; avoid ferric sulfate with epinephrine cords.
Kit Contents
- 1 bottle containing ~8 ft (≈ 244 cm) of Size #1 Ultrapak™ E cord
- CleanCut color-coded cap with integrated blade and measurement ruler
Application Protocol & Timing
- Cut desired length using built-in CleanCut blade and measure via cap ruler.
- Optionally moisten cord with a bonding-compatible hemostatic (e.g. ViscoStat or Consepsis) — do not use ferric sulfate agents with epinephrine cords.
- Gently pack dry cord into sulcus using a slender packing instrument—compression ensures retention.
- Allow cord to remain in place for ~3–8 minutes (typically ~5) for full expansion and tissue displacement.
- Remove cord carefully, rinse operative field, and verify hemostasis and displacement.
- Proceed with impression-taking, bonding, or cementation once the field is dry and accessible.
Indications
- Subgingival margin exposure for crowns, veneers, inlays/onlays, especially in anterior or delicate tissues
- Ideal as inner cord in a double‑cord technique paired with a thicker cord for greater displacement
- Protective pre‑preparation cord placement prior to restorative procedures on anterior teeth.
Instructions for Use
- Determine required length and cut cord with the CleanCut cap blade.
- Optional: saturate cord briefly with bonding-compatible hemostatic (avoid ferric sulfate with epinephrine).
- Gently pack cord into sulcular space; compression ensures retention.
- Leave cord in place for ~5 minutes for tissue displacement and hemostasis.
- Remove cord carefully, rinse, dry, and confirm margin exposure.
- Proceed with clinical workflow—impression, bonding, or cementation.
