Clinical Overview

Ultrapak™ E is a knitted 100 % cotton gingival retraction cord impregnated with racemic epinephrine hydrochloride. Designed to gently displace tissue within delicate sulci, the knitted-loop construction compresses during placement and then expands, maintaining consistent outward pressure. Size #00 is especially suitable for veneer preparations and thin, friable gingiva. Optimal tissue displacement typically occurs within 3–8 minutes.

Kit Contents

Application Protocol & Timing

1. Cut appropriate length using the built-in blade and measure via the cap ruler.

2. Optionally saturate cord with chlorhexidine or aluminum chloride hemostatic agents (do not use ferric sulfate with epinephrine cords due to precipitate risk).

3. Pack cord gently into the sulcus using a thin Ultrapak™ packer; compression ensures the cord remains securely positioned.

4. Allow cord to remain in situ for approximately 3–8 minutes (typically ~5 minutes) to achieve optimal tissue displacement.

5. Remove cord carefully before impression taking or cementation; rinse field and verify hemostasis.

Indications

• Subgingival margin exposure for veneer, crown, or inlay/onlay procedures

• Use in anterior and esthetic zones where tissue is thin or fragile

• As the inner cord in a double-cord technique paired with a larger outer cord (#0–#2) when deeper displacement is needed.

Instructions for Use

1. Select desired cord length and cut using the CleanCut cap blade.

2. Optionally moisten with compatible hemostatic agent (except ferric sulfate products).

3. Pack cord into sulcus with a thin, rounded cord-packing instrument until compression is evident.

4. Leave in place for ~5 minutes to allow expansion and tissue displacement.

5. Remove cord gently, rinse operative field thoroughly, and verify bleeding control.

6. Proceed immediately with impression, bonding, or restorative procedure following verified access.
