Clinical Overview

Ultrapak™ plain knitted cord is made of 100 % cotton loops woven into thousands of interlocking chains. Its structure compresses during packing, then gently expands to exert continuous outward pressure—facilitating effective gingival retraction and margin exposure. Optimal tissue displacement typically occurs within 3–8 minutes.

Application Protocol & Timing

1. Use built-in blade and cap ruler to cut desired length.
2. Optionally moisten cord with a bonding-compatible hemostatic (e.g. aluminum chloride or chlorhexidine)—avoid ferric sulfate with epinephrine cords (not applicable here).
3. Gently pack cord into the sulcus using a slim packing instrument until compression is achieved.
4. Leave in place for ~3–8 minutes (typically around 5 min) to allow tissue displacement.
5. Remove cord carefully; rinse and dry field, confirm margin exposure and hemostasis.

Indications

• Subgingival margin exposure for veneers, crowns, inlays/onlays—especially in lower anteriors or delicate tissues
• Thin, friable gingival cases requiring gentle displacement
• Inner cord in a double-cord technique paired with larger size when deeper tissue retraction is needed.

Instructions for Use

1. Cut needed cord length using CleanCut cap blade and measure via printed ruler.
2. Optional: soak cord in bonding-compatible hemostatic agent if needed.
3. Using a slim cord packer, gently place cord into sulcus with slight compression.
4. Allow 3–8 minutes for knitted loops to expand and achieve tissue displacement.
5. Remove cord with care; rinse and dry field, verify margin exposure and dryness.
6. Proceed with impression, bonding or restorative protocol on a clean, accessible field.
