Clinical Overview

Opalustre™ is a 6.6 % hydrochloric acid enamel-microabrasion slurry containing silicon carbide microparticles. It combines chemical stain removal with gentle mechanical abrasion to address superficial white, brown or mottled enamel defects—commonly caused by fluorosis or decalcification (<0.2 mm depth) in a minimally invasive, single-appointment procedure.

Microabrasion Procedure

• Application time: Apply slurry with bristle cup under moderate pressure until stain subsides—intermittent rinsing and inspection recommended.
• Repeatable: May be reapplied in same session if discoloration persists.
• Post-treatment: Follow immediately with fluoride application or varnish to reduce postoperative sensitivity.

Indications

• Superficial enamel decalcification or fluorosis stains (< 0.2 mm depth)
• White or brown enamel mottling unresponsive to bleaching
• Enamel surface irregularities due to orthodontic treatment or early caries lesions

Instructions for Use

1. Isolate teeth using rubber dam or OpalDam barrier.
2. Dispense Opalustre™ directly onto stained enamel using included tip.
3. Use an OpalCups latch-type bristle cup at slow handpiece speed to distribute slurry and exert firm pressure over stain.
4. Rinse and inspect tooth surface intermittently; repeat if staining remains.
5. After finishing abrasion, rinse thoroughly with water and suction. Lightly polish using finishing cups if available.
6. Apply topical fluoride treatment or varnish and advise patient accordingly.
7. If post-bleaching bonding is planned, delay at least 7–10 days for oxygen dissipation.
