Clinical Overview

The Omni‑Matrix System (Ultradent #318) is a complete clinician-ready kit containing ultra-thin, anatomically contoured sectional matrix bands and universal retainer clamps. Developed for posterior Class II composite restorations, it enables precise interproximal contour and contact recreation in a predictable and efficient workflow. Its stackable clamp design accommodates simultaneous placement on mesial and distal surfaces using standard rubber dam or sectional matrix forceps alone, with no need for proprietary pliers.

Key Benefits

  • Anatomical band geometry: Burns into natural marginal ridge anatomy and avoids catching on the gingival margin during placement.
  • Ultra‑thin burnishable stainless steel (≈ 0.038 mm): Promotes full contact adaptation even in narrow gingival crevices.
  • Stackable universal clamps: One clamp fits all posterior teeth and allows concurrent band placement on both sides.
  • Compatibility with any forceps: Usable with any standard rubber dam or sectional matrix forceps for fast clinician adoption.
  • Cost-effective bulk packaging: Includes 160 matrix strips across regular, regular-extended, large, and large-extended formats to match varied cavity widths.
  • Reliable retention throughout procedure: Stable clamp-hold even during abrasion or finishing steps.

Kit Contents

  • 4 × universal sectional retainer clamps
  • 40 × regular sectional matrix bands
  • 40 × regular extended sectional matrix bands
  • 40 × large sectional matrix bands
  • 40 × large extended sectional matrix bands

Indications

  • Class II posterior composite restorations where anatomical proximal contour and tight contact are required.
  • Conventional or digital techniques, including deep or bleached chambers where ideal margin visibility is needed.
  • Back‑to‑back adjacent Class II restorations where one or more teeth require simultaneous banding.
  • Clinicians seeking to minimize matrix distortion and improve finishing efficiency.

Instructions for Use

  1. Isolate the tooth area using rubber dam and choose the matrix band size matching the prep width (e.g., regular vs large).
  2. Select a universal clamp and seat the matrix band in the embrasure with forceps; twist clamp head to engage sulcus anatomy snugly.
  3. For mesial and distal surfaces simultaneously, stack two clamps (one on each side) with their tines engaging opposite bands.
  4. Verify band margin sits just apical to the cavity gingival floor and no excess is impinging on the papilla.
  5. Maintain firm pressure separation during composite placement to recreate tight contact before curing.
  6. Once curing is complete, gently remove each clamp and band using forceps, breaking seal one side first to avoid flash removal issues.
  7. Finish and polish the interproximal anatomy as needed using thin finishing strips and slow-speed instrumentation.

Summary

The Omni‑Matrix Sectional System Kit (Code 318) streamlines Class II composite restorations by delivering anatomically contoured matrix bands and stackable universal clamps that work with standard forceps. Its metal-on-metal adaptability, comprehensive band sizing, and retraction-friendly clamp design help create consistently tight contacts and ideal contours with minimal finishing time—especially useful in high-volume posterior workflows.
